When does City Council Meet?

Regular Meetings:  First Monday of each month.

Unless otherwise noted on the agenda, all meetings    are held at City Hall between 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Request for Function Participation

Individuals and organizations wishing to invite the Mayor or Councilmember(s) to an event or function are asked to submit the online request form.  

You may email your request, hand-deliver or mail your request to City Secretary's Office at 910 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546-4856.

Please note that requests must be submitted two weeks in advance. The availability of elected officials is not guaranteed.

Overview

The Mayor and six Councilmembers are elected from the City at large to serve three-year terms. A charter amendment was approved May 4, 1992, to extend terms from two to three years, to be phased in over a three year period beginning in 1993. A four-term limitation was approved in 2007.

The Mayor and Councilmembers are volunteers who serve without compensation.

City Council Duties

The City Council:

  • Is the principal legislative body of the City. 
  • Establishes programs, policies and priorities for safe, efficient and equitable operation of the City. 
  • Appoints a City Manager who is responsible to the Council for the administration of all affairs of the City, including the appointment and removal of department directors and employees, supervision and control of all City departments, and preparation of the annual budget.
