Councilmember Joe Matranga 

Joe moved to Friendswood in 1971.  He graduated from Friendswood High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University.  Joe and his wife, Paula, raised two daughters who graduated from Friendswood High School and continued their education with one graduating from Texas A&M University and the other from The University of Texas at Austin.

Joe worked 39 years for Occidental Petroleum, a Houston based oil & gas company. He held a variety of positions in plant operations and power plant design, construction and operations. As a Senior Vice President he led Occidental’s power business, with over $1B in assets, that included responsibility for all of the company’s electricity generation, procurement and marketing in North America before retiring in 2019.

Joe began serving on the City of Friendswood ‘s Planning and Zoning Commission in 2017 and was the Commission’s Chairman from 2018 thru 2022.  He served on the board of Friendswood Animal Advocates from 2019 to 2022 and continues to volunteer at Friendswood Animal Control.  Joe joined the board of Friendswood’s West Ranch Management District in 2021 and serves as a Director representing the residents of West Ranch and the citizens of Friendswood.
