Codes & Standards

The City of Friendswood is currently using the 2018 edition of the

  • Building Code
  • Energy Conservation Code
  • International Fire Code
  • International Fuel Gas Code
  • International Residential Code for One-and-Two Family Dwellings
  • Mechanical Code
  • National Electric Code
  • Plumbing Code

In addition, the City has adopted the 2018 edition of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101, the Life Safety Code. The office references all current NFPA Standards during plan review.

All plans should be initially submitted to the Community Development Department with copies for the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Burning, Commercial Fumigation & Fuel Storage Remediation / Repair

An application must be filled out and submitted to the Fire Marshal’s Office prior to conducting any open burning, commercial fumigation, or fuel storage remediation or repair. Due to clean air considerations, the Fire Marshal’s Office requires that alternate methods of disposal of wood debris be considered in lieu of open burning or trench burning.

Fire Alarms & Sprinkler Systems

The City requires notification prior to anyone performing any work on any fire alarm or sprinkler system which requires it to be shut down at any time.
