The City of Friendswood is currently using the 2024 edition of the: 

• International Building Code®*
• International Energy Conservation Code®*
• International Fire Code®*
• International Fuel Gas Code®*
• International Residential Code®*
• International Mechanical Code®*
• International Plumbing Code®*
• International Swimming Pool and Spa Code®*

*With local amendments

The City of Friendswood is currently using the 2023 edition of the:

• NFPA 70 National Electric Code®

In addition, the City has adopted the 2024 edition of the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code®. The Fire Marshal's Office references all current National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA) Standards during plan review.

All plans should be initially submitted to the Community Development Department, including those intended for the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Fire Alarms & Sprinkler Systems

The City requires notification before anyone performs work on any fire alarm or sprinkler system that requires it to be shut down.

Locking Devices

The Fire Marshal has not approved after-market locking devices or barricades. Contact the Fire Marshal's Office with any questions.
