The beautification group was originally started in 1973 as the Civic Beautification Committee, later changed to the Community Appearance Board in 1977, and is now known as Keep Friendswood Beautiful. Keep Friendswood Beautiful (KFB) is a city board made up of 20 volunteers dedicated to enhance the aesthetic appearance of Friendswood and to encourage residents to take an active role in maintaining that appearance. Awarded the Governor's Community Achievement Award of $210,000 in 2015, KFB used the money to improve the 518 medians with new landscaping under the direction of the Texas Department of Transportation. KFB directs and coordinates management and planning of projects and education of the community, recommends budget and project priorities to City Council, seeks grants for funding opportunities, makes suggestions for conserving and protecting natural resources, and performs such other duties as the City Council may reasonably request.
The Keep Friendswood Beautiful Grant Incentive Program is a partnership between the Keep Friendswood Beautiful Board of the City of Friendswood and Friendswood businesses, to initiate landscape improvement projects within the city for over all quality of life and beautification of the city. KFB supplies cash reimbursement for a landscape improvement project (not to exceed $2,000) and the business matches the contribution with cash or in-kind donations, such as local resources of volunteer labor, donated materials, professional services, etc.

The most important member of Keep Friendswood Beautiful is Figgy, the eco-friendly squirrel. Figgy was born in 2012 and is now the face of KFB. Our furry friend attends all of the KFB educational programs and helps spread the word about the 3 R's "Recycle, Reduce, Reuse." If you see Figgy around the city, be sure to give a high five to show your support of the Keep Friendswood Beautiful mission!
Adopt-A-Spot is a volunteer program where area volunteer groups are able to "adopt" a flower bed in one of Friendswood's parks. The program creates opportunities for these groups to invest in the health and beauty of the community and increase the quality of life for residents and visitors. The adoptive group is responsible for planting and maintaining the bed during the spring, summer, and fall. If your group would like to Adopt A Spot, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 281-996-3220.
