On April 14, Friendswood will have a new City Manager; Morad Kabiri. He succeeds Roger Roecker, who is retiring after 29 years with the City.
Kabiri began his municipal career in Missouri City, TX in 2000 and has held a variety of positions in local government Planning, Engineering, Capital Projects, Public Works, and City Management. In 2007, he joined the City of Friendswood as Deputy Director of Community Development, and was promoted to Director of Community Development and City Engineer shortly thereafter.
In 2012, he became Friendswood’s first Assistant City Manager, responsible for the Community Development, Parks & Recreation, and Public Works departments.
Kabiri has a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Houston (UH) and a Master of Urban Planning & Environmental Policy from Texas Southern University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the field of civil engineering, and a Certified Planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners.
Kabiri is not a stranger to many people in Friendswood after being actively involved in and meeting with residents at various community events for many years.
“It has been a privilege to serve the residents of Friendswood under the leadership of City Manager Roger Roecker. He has been a great teacher and friend,” said Kabiri.
“The transition from Roger to Morad has been planned for a long time,” said Friendswood Mayor Kevin Holland. “I’m confident it will go well and that day-to-day, Morad will lead the City with excellence for many years to come.”
Morad and his wife Laura are raising their two sons in Friendswood. As a family, they enjoy school activities, spending time with extended family, and sports, especially UH sports.More: Home Space News
