Friendswood is one of 21 Texas cities recognized as a “2019 Certified Scenic City” award recipient through the Scenic City Certification Program. Friendswood's status was upgraded from Bronze to Platinum. The Scenic City Certification Program recognizes cities for their demonstrated commitment to high-quality scenic standards for public roadways and spaces. It is a nationally recognized one-of-a-kind model, developed to provide communities with a comprehensive set of standards and evaluations for the design and development of public roadways and spaces.
The assessment is points-based, and every applicant city receives a detailed, scored evaluation that identifies both strengths and areas for improvement. Official certification is earned by cities that score points in the upper range and meet threshold standards for landscaping, tree planting, and sign regulation. “The Scenic City Certification process is an outside evaluation of multiple factors and validates the hard work of a lot of people, many of whom are volunteers,” said Mayor Mike Foreman. “I’m proud to live in a city that continues to beautify and improve our public spaces.”More: Home Space News
