Poetry Festival

We are opening submissions for our 2022 Ekphrastic Poetry Festival. Ekphrastic poetry is poetry inspired by a visual work of art such as a painting, sculpture, or photograph. Please submit 1-3 poems to Matt Riley (mriley@friendswood.com), Friendswood Library, by midnight July 31st, 2022. Please identify the specific work of art that each of your poem/s address. All poems will also be considered for a 2023 poetry anthology. The 2022 anthology will be available soon. More details regarding the 2022 reading and anthology will be forthcoming.

To be considered for the 2022 Reading and Contest:
1. Type Ekphrastic Poetry in the subject line of the email.

2. Type your name, phone number, name of poem/s, names of artwork and artist, and short bio in the body of the e-mail

3. Do not place your name or contact information on the Word document (poems).

4. Contest will be judged by blind jury. Please do not submit self-portrait artwork that may identify yourself to jurors, or contemporary installation art images.

5. Please consider what would be acceptable to display in a public library setting when selecting your image submissions.

6. Only works of art in the public domain or works of art where the poet is the copyright owner or can submit direct permission from the copyright owner will be considered for the contest and anthology.
