City Council Approves $13,000 Grant for Texas Behavioral Health Expansion

|
|
On August 3, City Council approved a $13,000 municipal grant for Texas Behavioral Health (TBH) to construct a new 10,400 square foot commercial building at 104 Whispering Pines near Friendswood Drive. The new $1.3 million building will be constructed in front of their existing office building. TBH will occupy 2,600 square feet and lease the remaining 7,800 square feet.
In addition to the municipal grant, this site is located in the Downtown District’s Neighborhood Empowerment Zone that waives all City-related development fees, estimated to be $18,163 for this project.
Results
Since 2008, the City, through the Economic Development Office has awarded $360,000 to businesses through the Municipal Grant Program, which in turn has created $47 million in taxable value, added 214,011 square feet of commercial space, and created or retained approximately 520 jobs in the city.

Pet Supplies Plus To Open Early Next Year
|

|
|
|
|
Pet Supplies Plus will open a locally-owned and operated pet shop at 1720 South Friendswood Drive near FM 528 (Parkwood Avenue) in early 2021. The 6,600 square foot store will stock food, treats, and pet supplies, as well as offer a full-service grooming salon and a self-service dog wash. For those looking for a new pet, the store will also have guinea pigs, hamsters, reptiles, and tropical fish. Pet Supplies Plus will partner with local animal rescues to help find cats and dogs their forever homes.
Site work is currently underway for the new 10,000 square foot building where Pet Supplies Plus will open. A 3,400 square foot retail endcap is available for lease. |

Galveston County Commissioners’ Court awarded the contract for Friendswood Lakes Boulevard construction to Angel Brothers Construction.
The $4.27 million project includes construction of a four-lane road that will connect with League City Parkway as well as construction of 4,800 feet of an 8” waterline and 1,400 feet of 8” and 10” sewer mains. Construction will begin in the next few weeks and will be complete by June 2021.
