Friendswood ranked one of “Safest Cities in the United States"

2020 Safest City

Friendswood has again ranked high on the list of “Safest Cities in the United States,” as calculated by NeighborhoodScout. Using 2019 data, Friendswood ranked second safest in Texas and 48th in the nation.

NeighborhoodScout ranks cities with a population of 25,000 or more, based on the total number of property and violent crimes reported to the FBI per 1,000 residents. In their announcement, NeighborhoodScout said, “Since many cities are served by more than one law enforcement agency, our exclusive analysis includes crimes reported by all agencies. We accomplish this by collecting raw crime data from all 18,000 law enforcement agencies in America. Then we use a relational database built from the ground up to assign reported crimes from each agency to the city where it has law enforcement responsibility.”

“This is a great reaffirmation of the hard work being done by the men and women of the Friendswood Police Department,” said Mayor Mike Foreman. “There is no way to over-appreciate them for the constant, positive presence they are in our City.”

"For many years, we have been consistently asking the general public, 'If you see something, say something,'" Police Chief Robert Wieners said. "Our consistently high marks in annual surveys are due in part to our residents continuing to take some responsibility for what goes on in our community."

NeighborhoodScout computed the Friendswood Crime Index at 73; safer than 73 percent of all American cities. “NeighborhoodScout’s analysis of the data confirms what residents and City leadership already know: Friendswood is a great, safe place to live and raise a family,” Foreman added.

The complete list and additional data about each city are available  on the NeighborhoodScout Blog.
