Friendswood ranks high on Safest Cities list

Date: February 21, 2018

The National Council for Home Safety and Security has named Friendswood one of the Safest Cities in Texas-2018.

Friendswood was ranked eighth safest in Texas and the safest in the greater Houston area.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics along with their own population data and internal research. Cities with populations under 10,000 or ones that failed to submit a complete crime report were not considered.

The remaining cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people. These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes accounting for 1.5 of the total (due to their severity) than property crimes.

“These findings recognize the hard work of the men and women of the Friendswood Police Department. It is also a compliment to the citizens of Friendswood who have made awareness and reporting of potential criminal activity a priority,” said Luke Loeser, Deputy Chief of Police, City of Friendswood.

“The safety of Friendswood residents is a core responsibility for our City. We are grateful for the recognition that the statistics show that Friendswood continues to meet that responsibility,” said Mayor Kevin Holland.

The only cities bordering Friendswood that made the top 100 Safest Cities in Texas list are League City, which ranked 64, and Pearland, which ranked 65.
