Friendswood ranks high on safest city list
|Date:||August 16, 2016|
The latest compilation of safest cities to live in Texas has Friendswood at number three among cities of comparable size. Value Penguin recently contacted the City to advise them of their analysis, based on the most recent FBI Crime Report numbers for all 217 Texas cities with more than ten thousand residents. In the 20 thousand to 50 thousand population category, Friendswood ranked third in Texas and first in the Houston metro area.
According to Value Penguin: “We standardized the data to reflect violent and property crimes per 100,000, to account for population. Then, we aggregated a ‘crime score’ by weighting violent crime at 80 percent and property crime at 20 percent.”
“The partnership we have been able to forge with residents and people in the business community has, over time, led to the development of a community that works together to reduce and prevent criminal activity,” said Robert Wieners, Friendswood Chief of Police. “I’m grateful to everyone who has been involved in making Friendswood’s high ranking a reality and want to underscore the great youth sports programs, noteworthy recreational facilities and parents who are engaged with their children. They also factor into this recognition.”
