Friendswood celebrates independence for the 121st time

An estimated five thousand people lined Friendswood Drive to enjoy the annual July 4th Celebration Grand Parade this year. Grand Marshal Dick Daugird and his wife, Horacene, led almost 100 parade units that including bands, antique and collectible vehicles, elected officials, and community groups.
City of Friendswood Official Historian Joycina Baker said this is the 121st consecutive year that the community has celebrated America’s independence.
The Grand Parade, Carnivals in Stevenson Park and Centennial Park, and evening patriotic program, concert and fireworks are the result of the combined efforts of City of Friendswood staff and the dozens of volunteers on the 4th of July Steering Committee.

A rebroadcast of the Grand Parade, hosted by David Smith and Sally Branson, is now playing on Friendswood TV (Channel 17 on Xfinity Cable and Channel 99 on ATT Uverse). The parade airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m.
