Keep Friendswood Beautiful Library Project

Keep Friendswood Beautiful volunteers Kaye Corey, Loretta Murphy, and Sherry Goen began working in April on a beautification project for the Friendswood library. They met with Mary Perroni and members of the Library Board and Friends of the Library to present a plan that would enhance the property around the library. The plan was approved and funds were provided by the library in late April and the project was underway.

The City of Friendswood’s Community Services Department arranged for city workers and Keep Friendswood Beautiful provided volunteers to prepare the beds, put in new soil and mulch and select plants based on the design for the property. Work began on May 12 and ended with a workday for Library and KFB volunteers on May 15 at 8:30 in the morning to put the plants in the ground.

Sherry Goen, Chair of Keep Friendswood Beautiful, stated that this was such a fun project to do and hopes that citizens of Friendswood enjoy the beautiful flowers and plants. Anyone interested in volunteering with KFB and /or becoming a member of the board should contact Community Services Department at 281-996-3220. The next meeting of Keep Friendswood Beautiful is Tuesday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room of Friendswood City Hall. We welcome visitors who may be interested in becoming a part of this organization.

VOLUNTEERS

Cub Scout Pack 442, Den 16 is doing their part to Keep Friendswood Beautiful. The cubs and their parents purchased fresh soil and native plants and planted them to enhance and beautify the Compassionate Friends Monument bed in Stevenson Park. Their goal is to adopt this spot and maintain it for the rest of the year. Loretta Murphy, KFB Volunteer Coordinator, assisted the Cubs with the selection of three native plants to ensure low maintenance.

More volunteers are needed in the City’s joint venture to Keep Friendswood Beautiful. For more information, please contact the City of Friendswood Community Services Department at 281-996-3220.
