Notifications

Current notifications of planned water outages, road closures and any other information related to current construction affecting the citizens of Friendswood.

 

  • BLACKHAWK BOULEVARD, OAK VISTA DRIVE AND WANDERING TRAIL - Please be advised that on Thursday, April 25, 2013 by 5:00 P.M., Matula & Matula will have all lanes open to normal traffic patterns.  The Contractor will be finishing up minor items to finish the project, so there may still be workers in the area and there may be partial lane closures around the areas they are working.

The City will continue to keep residents updated on the City of Friendswood website and the City's e-mail notification system.  Questions concerning this project can be directed to City of Friendswood Project Manager George Cherepes at (281) 996-3200.

Capital Projects Underway:

  • Melody Lane Reconstruction Residents will soon see the benefits of the construction that has been occurring on Melody Lane and FM 2351.  New concrete paving and an upgraded traffic signal at FM 2351 and Melody Lane will be the obvious improvements, but the project also includes a new storm drainage system with two new outfall systems to Mary’s Creek.  This project is being funded by the Galveston County 2008 Bond Election.  Schedule and weather permitting, this project is scheduled to be completed by mid-2012.  Project Manager – Brian Rouane.

  • Surface Water Plant #2 Phase 1, Ground Storage Tank Addition The tank has been completed and awaiting the completion of Surface Water Plant #2, Phase 2, to fill and put the new tank into service.  Project Manager – Brian Rouane.

  • Surface Water Plant #2 Phase 2, System Upgrades – This project includes upgrades to the existing control room, a new pump, and the installation of new piping to tie in the new storage tank to the existing pumping system. The new upgraded surface water plant will assist in meeting the required demands for the vital water distribution system. The installation of the newer pump, upgraded controls, and new piping connecting the new storage tank will assist in confirming the water plant is appropriately prepared to provide continuous service along with the potential to provide service to any future development in the panhandle area of the City.  Project Manager – Brian Rouane.

  • TDRA Natural Gas Emergency Generators – The Texas Department of Rural Affairs (TDRA) has supplied the City with a grant to install emergency generators at various critical facilities throughout the City.  These facilities include Fire Station #1, Fire Station #2, Surface Water Plant #1, Water Plant #2, and 29 of Friendswood’s sanitary sewer lift stations.  Generators will allow the City to maintain critical needs such as sewer and water services to citizens if power is lost in an emergency situation such as a hurricane.  The work on the Water Plants and Fire Stations is primarily complete, and the work on the lift stations is nearing completion.  Project Managers – George Cherepes and Brian Rouane.

  • Water Plant #5 Replacement – Water Plant #5 can also be identified as the old water tower behind the Friendswood High School stadium.  The project is currently under construction.  The scope of this project is to replace the elevated storage tank and the ground storage tank with new concrete tanks.  The pump house, pumps, controls, and yard piping are also scheduled to be replaced during the construction process also and a new natural gas generator will be installed.  Project Manager – Brian Rouane.

  • Water Plant #6 Rehabilitation – There is a new 500,000 gallon steel water tank, as well as a new pump house and an emergency generator at the City’s water plant on Pennystone Way.  The new water storage tank will greatly increase the City’s water storage capacity.  The contractor on this project is in the process of finalizing the work.  Project Manager – George Cherepes.

  • Fire Station #3 Rehabilitation The Texas Department of Rural Affairs awarded a grant to the City to assist in the repair costs of the existing Fire Station # 3 facility.  The facility received substantial damage during Hurricane Ike.  The project is currently under construction, and the repairs and improvements to the building will include replacing the roof, interior walls, windows and doors and adding to the building to extend the apparatus bays.  Construction is scheduled to be completed by mid-2012.  The City and the Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department have worked jointly in coordinating this project.  Project Manager – George Cherepes.

  • Blackhawk, Oak Vista, and Wandering Trail Paving Project In the near future the public will be able to reap the benefits of improvements that are scheduled to be made on Blackhawk Boulevard from Friendswood Link Road to Thursa Lane, on Wandering Trail from Kingsmill Road to Geneva Drive, and on Oak Vista from Magnolia Street to East Spreading Oaks.  The project is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed early 2013.  A groundbreaking ceremony was conducted on February 27th, 2012.  Project Manager – George Cherepes.

Upcoming Projects

A list of upcoming projects for prospective bidders and information purposes for the citizens of Friendswood.

 

  • Friendswood Link Road Phase 2HDR-Claunch & Miller have completed the PER (Preliminary Engineering Report) and the EA (Environmental Assessment) on this project.  A public hearing was conducted on Monday, March 5th, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the council chambers at City Hall.  This project is intended to expand Friendswood Link Road from Blackhawk Boulevard to FM 518 into a four-lane curb and gutter section.  A previous phase was recently completed as El Dorado Boulevard by Harris County.  In addition, the project includes the construction of an underground storm sewer system and widening the existing bridge over Clear Creek.

  • Water Plant #2 Replacement – Freese & Nichols is being coordinated with to conduct the design on this project.  This project will include the replacement of the control room, chemical room, conversion of pumps, the ground storage tank and all valves and piping.  The existing cyclone fence will be replaced with an 8 foot cedar wood fence.

  • Water Plant #7 Replacement – Freese & Nichols will is being coordinated with to conduct the design on this project.  The project will include the replacement of the control room, chemical room, pumps, and ground storage tank, and the replacement of all valves and piping as necessary.  The existing cyclone fence will be replaced with an 8 foot cedar wood fence.  The existing tank is made of galvanized steel with a capacity of 210,000 gallons and will be replaced with a 500,000 gallon steel unit.

  • Lift Station #3 Replacement – Costello, Inc. will is being coordinated with to conduct the design on this project.  This project includes replacing the existing lift station that serves the Annalea-Kingspark-Whitehall area.  A new wet well will be installed, new pumps and controls for the lift station will be installed, and a new 8 foot cedar wood fence will be erected.

  • Lift Station #6 Replacement – Costello, Inc. will is being coordinated with to conduct the design on this project.  This project includes replacing the existing lift station that serves the Regency Estates area.  A new wet well will be installed, new pumps and controls for the lift station will be installed, and a new 8 foot cedar wood fence will be erected.
