Notifications

Current notifications of planned water outages, road closures and any other information related to current construction affecting the citizens of Friendswood.

  • Friendswood Link Rd/Whispering Pines Phase II - In January of this year, the City held a town hall meeting at City Hall to discuss plans to widen Friendswood Link Road/Whispering Pines through a  State grant program designed to improve mobility in and around Friendswood, providing for alternate means of ingress and egress to I-45.  At that time, the project entailed expanding the current two-lane facility to a four-lane one from Blackhawk Boulevard to FM 518.  At this time, the City would like to provide you with an update to the project's progress.  In February, four bids were received for the project, unfortunately the lowest bid came in 20 percent higher that the funds the City has available/dedicated towards this project.  The current construction climate is experiencing a steep increase in materials prices (namely for concrete and steel).  In an effort to bring this project to fruition, the City decided to redesign and rebid the project.  The portion of the project from Hibiscus Lane to Arbre Lane has been reduced to a two-traffic lanes with a center turn lane.  The existing bridge will be two-travel lanes with a dividing median and sidewalks on both sides.  There will be minimal work on the bridge and no extensions of the bridge deck will be needed.  The City has advertised for bids and will be receiving bids on April 15, 2014 at 2:00 P.M..  City staff will be preparing to present the bid results at the May City Council Meeting along with their recommendations.  Should you have any questions about this project, or if we can be of any assistance, please feel free to call the City at (281) 996-3293.
