Notifications

Current notifications of planned water outages, road closures and any other information related to current construction affecting the citizens of Friendswood.

  • 2013 STREET BOND PROJECT:

    • Woodlawn Avenue:  The Contractor on the Woodlawn Avenue Street project is planning on closing down Woodlawn Avenue, from FM 2351 to W. Shadowbend Avenue, making it one-way traffic on Monday, June 5, 2017.  The traffic pattern will flow from FM 2351 to W. Shadowbend Avenue for the duration of this project as shown in the Traffic Control Plan.  Information regarding construction areas associated with the project will be updated periodically.

    • Winding Road:  The Contractor is finishing up the concrete paving and will start cleanup.

    • Townes Road:  The Contractor has completed this phase.

    • Mary Ann Drive:  The Contractor has completed this phase.

    • W. Shadowbend Avenue:  The Contractor has completed this phase. 

The Contractor for the 2017 Concrete Street Maintenance Repairs will be starting this project on Monday, October 9th, 2017.  The project limits include portions of San Joaquin Parkway and San Miguel Drive.  Starting at San Joaquin Parkway, the project will require one complete lane of paving to be removed, the westbound side of San Joaquin Parkway and the northbound side of San Miguel Drive.  In an effort to accompany residents entering and leaving the construction area, temporary Traffic Signal Lights will be installed at the locations shown in the attached traffic control plan.  Please be advised that these temporary signals are regulatory and serve in the same capacity as normal traffic signals.  If there are any questions or concerns please contact George Cherepes at (281) 996-3293.  The General Traffic Control can be viewed at this link: 2017 Concrete Street TC.

Capital Projects Underway:

  • Centennial Park Basketball Pavilion – The scope of this project is to install the last part of the Centennial Park Phase III with funding available from the 2013 Park Bond Election.  This project will complete the build out of Centennial Park.  The Contractor has broken ground and started the building pad site for this project.  Project Manager – Jameson Appel.

  • Downtown Street Pavers – The Pavers have been installed and this part of the contract has been completed.  The City is also having park benches and lighting installed.  Project Manager – Jameson Appel.

  • Fire Station #4 Renovations and New Fire Station at the PSB – The scope of this project is to renovate the existing Fire Station #4 to adding 2,050 SF to the existing building.  The new Kenneth M. Camp Fire Station, Fire Station #1 will replace the existing Fire Station #1 that is currently next to City Hall.  The new fire station will be approximately 20,700 SF.  Both of these sites are currently under construction.  Project Manager – Tuan Nguyen.

  • Lake Friendswood Park and Pavilion – This project is currently under construction.  The park will have a walking trail with various amenities through the trail area.  The pavilion and restroom areas are being built in partnership with Friendswood Development Corporation.  Project Manager – Jameson Appel.

  • Library Expansion and Renovations – The proposed project will expand the existing facility and renovate the existing facility and add much needed parking  The proposed 21,000 square foot building is almost completed and contractor is finalizing punch items.  Project Manager – Rick Watkins.

  • Lift Station #3 – The existing lift station has out lived its usefulness and needs to be upgraded.  The existing site is also hard to access.  The scope of the work is to install a new lift station on a newly purchased parcel of land, re-route the gravity sewer and force main lines.  The project is scheduled to be finished in mid-October.  Project Manager – Tuan Nguyen.

  • Lift Station #18 – The existing lift station has out lived its usefulness and needs to be upgraded.  The scope of the work is to install a new lift station, re-route the gravity sewer and force main lines.  The Project is substantially complete and scheduled for final completion soon.  Project Manager – Tuan Nguyen.

  • Sanitary Sewer Assessment Phase II – The second phase of the Assessment of the City's Sanitary Sewer System will include smoke testing of the gravity lines, manhole inspections, and televising the lines.  This project is a concentrated effort to reduce the Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) in the sanitary system.  Project Manager - Public Works Staff.

  • SCADA System Upgrades Phase I – The existing SCADA system is out of date and parts for replacement is become hard, if near impossible, to find.  A grant is allowing the City to upgrade the SCADA system for future expansion of the system.  The City has added 6 more sites to the original grant due to realized savings and this project is now complete and waiting GLO Close Out procedures.  Project Manager – Tuan Nguyen.

  • Water Plant #2 Replacement – The scope of this project is to replace the existing bolted galvanized tank with a new welded steel tank, new yard piping, and pumps.  The Contractor is working on punch items.  Project Manager – Tuan Nguyen.

  • Water Plant #7 Replacement – The scope of this project is to replace the existing bolted galvanized tank with a new welded concrete tank, new yard piping, pumps, and a new natural gas generator.  The Contractor is working on finalizingpunch items.  Project Manager – Tuan Nguyen.

 Upcoming Projects

A list of upcoming projects for prospective bidders and information purposes for the citizens of Friendswood.

  • Blackhawk Boulevard Phase II  The City has solicited a proposal from HDR Engineering, Inc. for the design of this project.  This project will include the replacement of over 6,000 linear feet of concrete paving, curb, and gutter and also an evaluation of the existing utilities.

  • Lift Station #23 Replacement  The City has solicited a proposal from Lockwood, Andrews, and Newman, Inc. for the design of this project.  This project will include the replacement of Lift Station #23 and installation of new natural gas generator.

  • Old City Park – the City has contracted with FMS Surveying to the Old City Park property.  Upgrades to the park will be new restroom facilities, dog park area, and additional parking.

  • Woodlawn Drive – the City has solicited a proposal from Cobb, Fendley, and Assosciates, for the desing and rehabilitation of Woodlawn Drive from W. Shadowbend Avenue to FM 2351, converting this street from asphalt to concrete paving.
