Notifications

Current notifications of planned water outages, road closures and any other information related to current construction affecting the citizens of Friendswood.

  • Please be advised that beginning on Thursday, May 12, 2011, the contractor conducting the construction on Sunnyview and Skyview Avenues will be limiting traffic flow to only one lane on Sunnyview.  Until further notice while the road is being excavated and new concrete paving installed, Sunnyview Avenue will be a one-way only street heading east from Friendswood Drive/FM 518 to Quaker Drive.  Detour routes to FM 518 will be either west on Clearview, or Spreading Oaks.
     
  • Please be advised that beginning on Monday, May 23, 2011, the contractor conducting the construction on Sunnyview and Skyview Avenues will be limiting traffic flow to only one lane on Skyview.  Until further notice while the road is being excavated and new concrete paving installed, Skyview Avenue will be a one-way only street heading east from Friendswood Drive/FM 518 to Quaker Drive.  Detour routes to FM 518 will be either west on Clearview, or Spreading Oaks.
     
  • Please be advised that beginning on Monday, May 23, 2011, the contractor conducting the construction on Sunnyview and Skyview Avenues will be closing the right northbound lane on FM 518 from midway between Clearview Avenue and Skyview to Sunnyview Avenue, while a new storm sewer line is being installed. This lane closure is expected to last three weeks.

Capital Projects Underway:

  • FM 2351 Infrastructure Utility Service to Beamer Road/FM 2351– This project was awarded on November 1, 2010 to Calco Contracting, LTD.  A grant from the EDA for promoting economic development is funding this project.  The project will encompass installing approximately 5,700 linear feet of water line, 4,100 linear feet of gravity sanitary sewer, 2,500 linear feet of force main, and a new sanitary sewer lift station.  The project, located in the City’s panhandle, is anticipated to spur commercial growth.  Project Manager:  George Cherepes.

  • Melody Lane Reconstruction – Conrad Construction Co., Ltd. was recently awarded the Contract for the Melody Lane Reconstruction Project from FM 2351 to the City Limits.  The project will install a new drainage system, two new outfalls to Mary’s Creek, replace existing asphalt roadway with new concrete paving, and upgrade the traffic signal at FM 2351/ Melody Lane.  This project is being funded per the Galveston County 2008 Bond Election.  Project Manager:  Brian Rouane.

  • Sunnyview Avenue/Skyview Terrace– Matula and Matula Construction, Inc. was recently awarded the Contract for the Sunnyview/Skyview Rehabilitation project.  The storm sewer drainage system is scheduled to remain as an open ditch system, but the contractor shall replace all culverts on the existing streets, regrade ditches, and install new concrete paving to replace the existing asphalt pavement.  This project is being funded per the Galveston County 2008 Bond Election.  Project Manager:  George Cherepes.

  • Surface Water Plant #2 Phase 1, Ground Storage Tank Addition– Natgun Corporation was awarded the Contract on July 12, 2010 to construct a new one-million gallon concrete storage tank next to the existing one-million gallon concrete storage tank.  Project Manager:  Brian Rouane.

  • Surface Water Plant #2 Phase 2, System Upgrades – This project is scheduled to be awarded on March 21, 2011 to W. W. Payton Corporation.  Phase II, includes upgrades to the existing control room, a new pump, and the installation of new piping to tie in the new storage tank to the existing pumping system.  The new upgraded surface water plant will assist in meeting the required demands for the vital water distribution system.  The installation of the newer pump, upgraded controls, and new piping connecting the new storage tank will assist in confirming the water plant is appropriately prepared to provide continuous service along with the potential to provide service to any future development in the panhandle area of the City.

  • TDRA Natural Gas Emergency Generators– The Texas Department of Rural Affairs (TDRA) office has supplied the City with a grant to install emergency generators at various “Critical” sites identified in the City.  The Critical Facilities identified are Fire Station #1, Fire Station #2, Surface Water Plant #1, Water Plant #2, and 29 sanitary sewer lift stations throughout the City to maintain critical needs (Fire Personnel, Sewer and Water) during emergency situations where power is lost (i.e. Hurricane Ike).  Project Managers:  George Cherepes and Brian Rouane.

  • Water Plant #5 Replacement – This project is scheduled to be awarded on March 21, 2011 to T & C Construction Co., Ltd.  The project, located adjacent to the FISD High School, will replace the elevated storage tank and the ground storage tank with new concrete tanks.  The pump house, pumps, controls, and yard piping are also scheduled to be replaced during the construction process.  Project Manager:  Brian Rouane.

  • Water Plant #6 Rehabilitation– Long and Sons was awarded the Contract for replacement of the existing plant and structures at this site on Pennystone.  They are scheduled to construct a new 500,000 gallon steel water tank (which will increase the City’s storage capacity), a pump house, and install an emergency generator.  The project was awarded on August 2, 2010.  Project Manager:  George Cherepes.

 


Upcoming Projects

A list of upcoming projects for prospective bidders and information purposes for the citizens of Friendswood.

  • Animal Control Facility– The Architectural Firm of Edwards Associates have been working on the design, which is about 95% completed.  Project Manger:  Brian Rouane.

  • Blackhawk Boulevard-Wandering Trail-Oak Vista Paving Improvements – HDR-Claunch & Miller is currently in the process of designing this proposed project.

  • Fire Station #3 Renovations – City staff, Friendswood VFD staff, and LJA Engineering are currently in the process of finalizing the proposed plans for renovations to this facility. The City’s Grant Administrator, Riveron Law Firm, is currently in the process of acquiring final review/approval from TDRA to proceed forward on the project. Project Manger: George Cherepes.

  • Friendswood Link Road Phase 2 – HDR-Claunch & Miller have completed the PER (Preliminary Engineering Report) and the EA (Environmental Assessment) on this project. Project Manager: Not Assigned.

  • Library Parking Lot Repair – An in-house designed project. This project will consist of proposed removal and replacement of a portion of the concrete paving, concrete leveling, and new striping in the existing parking lot. Project Manger: Brian Rouane.
