Codes & Standards

The City of Friendswood is currently using the 2009 edition of the International Fire Code, building code, mechanical code, and plumbing code.

In addition, the City has adopted the 2009 edition of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 101, the Life Safety Code. The office references all current NFPA Standards during plan review.

All plans should be initially submitted to the Community Development Department with copies for the Fire Marshal's Office.

An application must be filled out and submitted to the Fire Marshal's Office prior to conducting any open burning, commercial fumigation, or fuel storage remediation or repair. Due to clean air considerations, the Fire Marshal's Office requires that alternate methods of disposal of wood debris be considered in lieu of open burning or trench burning.

Our office is also required to be notified prior to performing any work on any fire alarm or sprinkler system which requires it to be shut down at any time.
