Friendswood Information Radio
The City of Friendswood Information Radio WPMZ659 is being broadcasted on AM 1650 on your radio dial. You will find a re-broadcast of the Houston/Galveston National Weather Service, as well as other important local information.
FirstCall and Neighborhood Early Warning System
The City of Friendswood has become one of the few cities in the area to be protected by two telephone-based community warning systems for major emergencies in our city and surrounding communities-- the First Call Interactive Network (FirstCall) and the Neighborhood Early Warning System (NEWS). These systems allow the City to quickly alert citizens in the area affected or the entire city of an emergency or potentially dangerous or hazardous condition. The systems, when directed, will begin calling all the phone numbers in the affected area, alerting those individuals to the situation and how to protect themselves.
Citizens with unlisted numbers who wish to be part of the Notification System, are encouraged to contact the Office of Emergency Management at 281-996-3335 to register their numbers.
Warning Siren System
The City of Friendswood has recently completed the installation of the Siren Alerting System. A total of six sirens have been installed throughout the city that will sound in the event of an emergency such as a hurricane, a pipeline rupture, or a tornado. Once the sirens have sound, citizens are urged to stay inside and tune into their local radio and television station for information. Additional information and updates will be announced on Friendswood Information Radio WPMZ659 AM 1650 as conditions dictate. Citizens are asked to remember that they may be contacted via the First Call system with additional information. Starting Friday May 4th the Siren Alerting System will be tested on the first Friday of every month at noon.
