Court Procedures

Our court is held on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m and 6:30pm.  Arraignment settings are held on Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:30 p.m. and on the 4th or 5th Wednesday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. Pre-trial hearings and Bench Trials are held on the 2nd Wednesday morning beginning at 8:30a.m., with Jury Trials scheduled on the 5th Wednesday in the evening.  When a citation is issued, a contact date is noted on the citation. You and/or your attorney may appear in person in open court, by mail, or you may make an appearance in person at the court facility.  (Juveniles have a separate set of rules for their appearance.  Please read the specific section on juveniles).  Upon contacting the court office, you will be assigned a court date.

Your first appearance is to determine your plea. If you plead guilty or no contendere, you must also waive non-jury and jury trial.  You may then talk to the judge about extenuating circumstances that you want the judge to consider when setting your fine.  The judge is not required to reduce your fine.  Before pleading guilty or no contest you may want to read the pamphlet on pleas.  If you plead not guilty, the court will schedule a jury trial unless you waive that right.  If you do, the trial will be before the judge.  Prior to any setting, the court requires a pre-trial conference.  These hearings are scheduled on the second Wednesday of every month.  When you make your first appearance by mail, the court must receive your plea before your scheduled appearance date.
